Over the years Renault have produced some of the best loved most memorable ad campaigns. From the sublime to the sexy, these ads have highlighted the French flair that is associated with the brand. Here are some favourites:
1) Renault Clio Zombie Ad
Created by Publicis, this ad was released in 2010. Using the Cranberries hit song Zombie (1994) this ad highlights the ethos behind the Renault Clio – “Life is too short to be boring.” The ad gives a sense of fun, individuality and devil-may-care attitude. There is a “je ne sais quoi” about the attitude of the main character that synonymous with the Renault brand.
2) Renault Clio Papa and Nicole Ad
The Papa and Nicole Renault Clio ad campaign, created by Publicis, was on UK television between 1991 and 1998. One of the longest running, best loved ad campaigns on British TV, it features exchanges between Nicole and Papa that were based on those between Audrey Hepburn and Hugh Griffiths in the 1966 movie, How to Steal a Million. These ads perfectly embody all that French style and sass associated with the Clio, from the characters to the countryside, the music to the mood.
3) Renault Clio Thierry Henry Ad
The Va Va Voom campaign was centred around French football star, Thierry Henry, and was launched in 2002. According to the Director of Marketing at Renault UK, Olivier Genereux, “Thierry Henry is the epitome of what the Clio represents – he’s cool and gives the car a masculine appeal which keeps it fresh, young and funky.” Today, the mere mention of va va voom is automatically associated with the Renault Clio.
