There very well may be if things shape up well for South Africa, as the Renault Alaskan concept bakkie has made its first appearance in Paris ahead of the official production launch in 2016. Although there is no official word yet about when (or even if) this pick-up truck will ever launch in South Africa, we at Group1 Renault think that it would be the perfect vehicle to take on the likes of the Nissan Navara, Toyota HiLux and the Volkswagen Amarok.
Built Using Renault-Nissan Alliance Knowledge
The Renault designers and manufacturers have drawn upon the extensive bakkie experience available to them in the Renault-Nissan Alliance and have used the lessons learned during the creation of the Nissan NP300 Navara to build an amazing bakkie that is the future of light commercial vehicle design.
Tough Good Looks
Although not to many bakkies or LCV’s can be said to be beautiful, the same cannot be said of the Renault Alaskan Bakkie. It offers an imposing front grille with oversize Renault badge and is clearly from the same design school as the popular Renault Captur and Renault Kadjar crossover SUVs. It also has headlamp clusters partially encased by sweeping C-shaped daytime running lights, which gives it a muscular appeal that would catch the eye of almost any South African bakkie lover.
Take a Look at the Renault Alaskan
The Renault Alaskan has already been confirmed as a production model for 2016, although as mentioned above we are not sure if it will hit South African shores just yet. However, we do know that there will be both a 5-seater double-cab body style and single cab version available at launch. Hopefully this bakkie will be part of the new Renault vehicle line-up in South Africa sometime in the foreseeable future.
