Did you know that Renault has a sporty sub-brand? Many South African’s don’t, but the fact it the Alpine brand has played a large part in Renault’s popularity worldwide and even though it has not introduced a new vehicle to the driving public in ages it is still an iconic part of the Renault brand. Thankfully times have changed and if the new Alpine Vision concept that was recently revealed in Monte-Carlo is anything to go by the driving world is in for something VERY special.
The new Alpine Vision previews what Renault claims will be the last concept view before the final unveiling of the production model later this year. Sales are expected to start in 2017, but unfortunately due to exchange rates it is doubtful that this amazing looking vehicle will be available in South Africa any time soon.
Why Create the Alpine Vision Concept?
When this question was put to Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn he only had one thing to say:
“I’m bringing Alpine back.” “We see Alpine as a strategic move for the Renault Group, and the production version of the Vision concept is an opportunity to leverage our performance and expertise on track” in a modern, reinvented lightweight sports car.”
The Alpine Vision at a Glance!
It is claimed that the Alpine Vision is capable of 0 – 100km’s an hour in about 4.5 seconds thanks to its lightweight build and mid-engine layout. Looks wise the Vision is exactly what its name describes as it has a low, sleek profile, sculpted sides and pronounced rear haunches that give the illusion of an elongated tail. Details of the interior are still fairly sparse, but we have managed to obtain the following picture which shows a stylish interior design that is as sporty and futuristic as the exterior of the car.
