New Renault Duster – Better Than Ever

Judging from global sales reaching two million and 15 000 in South Africa, the Renault Duster has certainly made an impact since its inception seven years ago. The second generation Duster looks even more impressive and is comprehensively one of the toughest and most affordable SUVs in its class.

With a starting price of R249 900 and the extensive list of features and functions, ’value for money’ doesn’t even begin to describe the much-anticipated revamped Renault Duster. The French automaker has become an increasingly popular brand across their South African range and the new Duster is one for the books.

While the aim was to make the new Renault Duster robust, reliable, attractive and affordable for Europe, it has performed admirably in our more challenging driving conditions. The new Duster then still offers good value with more impressive specs, inside and out.

Most of the dimensions remain the same with the exterior boasting a tougher, more intimidating and capable look. Ground clearance is an impressive 210mm with an approach angle of 30 degrees and a departure angle of 34 degrees, the Duster is a serious on- and off-road contender.

Adding to the Duster’s impressive appearance are more refined contours, new C-shaped headlights and 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels. The aluminium roof bars, front and rear skid plates and the enlarged grille also make the new Renault stand out from the rest. Not much has changed at the rear with a similar tailgate but they have added new square lights.

Interior Features And Safety

Looking at the interior is like stepping into another dimension. For starters, the new dashboard features prominently with a higher-mounted infotainment screen retaining its user interface simplicity. The system includes built-in navigation, music and USB. The new Renault Duster offers more storage space with improved accessibility to controls, a 60/40 back seat split and a class-leading boot capacity of up to 478 litres. Although the interior is still hard plastic, the quality is far more superior while the seats offer more comfort with better support, extra padding and more adjustability.

Renault’s keyless entry system makes its debut in the new Duster where a hands-free card unlocks the car when you are a metre within range of the vehicle which also locks itself when you walk away. Blind spot warning is also available along with hill start assist, multi-view camera, rear parking sensor, automatic climate control, speed limiter and cruise control.

Renault has always taken safety very seriously and the new Duster has everything you’d come to expect from a quality SUV. Depending on the model you choose, features include ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) and EBA (Emergency Brake Assist), driver and passenger airbags.

Renault Duster Engine Specifications

The new Renault Duster is available in two fuel and three engine variants with a choice between the 1.6-litre 16V and two versions of the 1.5 dCi turbo engine. Pushing out 66kW and 210Nm of torque, the Diesel 1.5 dCi 4×2’s engine is the lower of the range while the 4×2 EDC and 4×4 manual versions impress with 80kW and 250Nm.

The 1.5 dCi Prestige EDC is fitted with a 6-speed dual-clutch providing an incredibly smooth ride especially navigating twists and turns up- and downhill. A much-improved suspension also results in a smoother ride quality. Many of the test drives involved driving harder than most owners would and the Renault Duster handled every challenge with aplomb.

The 4×4 Renault Duster will prove it’s worth when it becomes available early in 2019 but the rest of the range is already in showrooms across the country. Prices include a five-year or 150 000 km warranty and a three-year or 45 000 km service plan with annual intervals or at 15 000 km.

If you’re looking for a top quality, affordable and tough SUV, the new Renault Duster is the right choice and will not disappoint. Book a test drive today or visit our website for more information.
